To me, as a lash artist, nothing is more horrifying than when a client returns their lashes looking like a disaster area after attempting a DIY removal. That's why it's always best if customers can schedule a removal appointment with me.
Still, here's what you need to know to avoid a disastrous lash removal experience if you decide to remove your lash extensions at home.

Remove Eyelash Extensions at Home: A Step-by-Step Guide
Removing eyelash extensions at home requires essentially the opposite of what your lash stylist recommended.
Do you recall the advice of your hairstylist to avoid using oil-based makeup remover?
Oils have a nasty habit of dissolving eyelash extension adhesive, leading to lashes that don't stay put.
Remove eyelash extensions in your own home by following these instructions. The following video tutorial, narrated by Dr. See Rupa Wong's video about removing her false eyelashes with coconut oil.
Wash Your Face
Just give your face a regular wash. Avoid scrubbing the area around your eyes, as doing so can pull on your eyelashes and cause them to fall out.
If you have applied mascara or eye makeup that may have settled on the eyelash extensions, you should remove it now.
In Stage 2, Steam Is Employed
Boil enough water to fill a large bowl. You can benefit from the steam by placing your face over the object and covering your head with a towel.
Wait a few minutes to give the glue used for eyelash extensions a chance to soften. In most cases, 15 minutes of steam is all you need.
Third, heat the oil.
First, fill a small bowl with oil. To successfully remove lash extensions, coconut oil is recommended. However, other oils such as olive oil, castor oil, and vegetable oil can also be used.
Step two is to gently heat the oil. The area around the eye is very delicate, so take care that the oil doesn't get too hot.
Submerge your clean pinky finger to test the temperature. You only need some gentle heat to speed things up.
Pads must be soaked in water in Step 4.
Following this, soak one or two cotton pads in warm oil. Apply the oiled cotton pad to one eye, over the lashes, and you're done!
Please leave it in place for five to ten minutes, or until the cotton pad cools down. Rub the oily pad over your upper lash line, and then wait a few minutes for it to soak into your extensions. You can also apply the oil to your eyelashes with a lint-free applicator.
In most cases, problems arise at this stage of the removal process. Don't be rough with your new lashes or your natural lashes, and avoid tugging at either.
Disconnect the Add-Ons (5th Step)
Gently swiping your lash line a second time with the same cotton pad. Some of the eyelash extensions should begin to shed and land in the cotton pad.
I can't emphasize enough how careful you need to be if you want to keep your natural lashes intact during this process. Don't tug on the extensions if they don't come loose. A specialist is required for their removal.
The Best Method to Take Off Your Eyelash Extensions
Remove your lash extensions at home with the most commonly used products, which are:
- Carrier oil: coconut
- Olive oil
- Hydrocarbons from the Earth's crust
- Castor oil
- Vaseline
- Baby oil

Can Coconut Oil Be Used to Remove Eyelash Extensions?
When it comes to removing lash extensions by yourself, coconut oil is the most secure and efficient option. The oil softens the adhesive bond between your real eyelashes and the extensions, making removal much less of a chore. It is also safer for your natural lashes, as it is less likely to irritate or harm them.
Even if you don't use eyelash extensions, coconut oil can be a wonderful hair moisturizer. However, it is most useful when used with cotton pads for removing lash extensions.
If you use coconut oil instead of olive oil, you could remove your extensions in under an hour.
Coconut oil and baking soda is a common household remedy for everything from removing super glue from fingers to preventing hair from turning gray.
Since baking soda can irritate the eyes, you can use coconut oil instead to remove the cyanoacrylate found in both glues.
Can Olive Oil be Used to Remove Eyelash Extensions?
Because of its safety and effectiveness, olive oil is a common choice for removing lash extensions. Take some warm extra-virgin olive oil and use it to remove the stubborn stain.
Put one or two cotton pads over each eye, and then proceed as directed. Olive oil has antimicrobial properties that will keep your natural lashes healthy while also dissolving the adhesive that holds the extensions in place.
The only catch is that unlike coconut oil, olive oil doesn't work quickly as a lash adhesive remover. Consequently, picture yourself doing several sessions of soaking and rolling the q-tip over your eyelashes
How Effective Is Mineral Oil for Removing Eyelash Extensions?
The natural mineral oil remover is widely used for eyelash extensions.
Mineral oil is present in even the Revlon remover for lash adhesives. Mineral oil's lubricant properties are responsible for its common use in moisturizing the skin and avoiding hair breakage.
Can Castor Oil Be Used To Remove Eyelash Extensions?
It is true that caster oil can be used to take out your extensions. Castor oil, on the other hand, does not quickly dissolve the adhesive used to secure the eyelashes. Put a small amount on your extension hair and let it sit for a while. To remove extensions naturally, you can also reapply it over the course of a few days.
But castor oil is one of the few oils known to enhance the appearance of eyelashes, making them appear thicker and glossier. [1]
Can Vaseline Be Used to Remove Eyelash Extensions?
Remover eyelash extensions with vaseline? Nope, not a good idea. It's greasy texture can make you feel uneasy. Also, it won't dissolve the lash adhesive or otherwise weaken the bond.
For safer and more efficient removal, oil-based solutions are preferable over this method.
Can Baby Oil Be Used to Remove Eyelash Extensions?
Oils for babies can be a combination of mineral and vegetable oils. To make the latter, you can combine various oils like coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, almond oil, soy oil, palm oil, sunflower oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil. [2]
Applying a cotton pad soaked in baby oil to your eyes for more than three minutes will not help remove lash extensions. Be careful not to get any of this oil in your eye.
Can I Remove Eyelash Extensions with a Professional Tool?
No way, no how Remover products used by experts are specially formulated to break down the adhesive used in eyelash extensions.
Contact with your eyes is extremely risky when using a lash extension remover. Only trained and qualified lash artists should use them.
Gel removers and cream removers are the two most popular types of lash extension removers on the market.
A gel remover will typically be a clear liquid of high viscosity. The gel remover is most commonly used by lash artists for spot removal (the removal of only a few extensions at a time). On the other hand, cream removers are typically more viscous than gel types and are used for removing extensions entirely.
You can find these products in both high-end cosmetics boutiques and on the web, and they come highly recommended. They guarantee that all remnants of eyelash adhesive are eliminated.

DIY Eyelash Removal: What Can Possibly Go Wrong?
We have gone over a detailed process for removing lash extensions in the comfort of your own home. However, I believe you should be cognizant of the dangers involved before going through with the procedure.
In general, I do not recommend doing your own eyelash extension removal at home. In most cases, it's best to have a professional remove them.
When weighed against the cost of a new set of lashes or a refill, the price of professional lash extension removal is relatively modest.
1 - Natural Eyelashes Are In Danger
Some customers have been so careless with their natural lashes during removal that I've heard horror stories.

When taking off extensions, it's easy to make the mistake of pulling or rubbing too roughly, which can cause damage. As the lash extensions are ripped out of the eyelids with force, the eyelashes themselves may be damaged in the process. In addition, I know of cases where girls' natural lashes were completely lost after they attempted removal at home.
It could take several months for your natural eyelashes to grow back to their full length and thickness after being damaged. To speed up the growth of your own lashes, a lash serum may be well worth the investment.
Secondly, you can't rely on pure oils for anything.
While oils can be used to dissolve lash adhesive, most natural oils aren't potent enough to completely free yourself of lashes in a single application. To get rid of your extensions permanently, you may need multiple sessions.
The time it takes to remove lashes on your own at home increases the risk that you will pull on them and cause them harm.
It's not unusual to experience significant natural lash loss or to become exhausted by the time-consuming process of removing eyelash extensions at home.
Three, Excessive Skin Oil
Applying too much oil along your lash line can cause acne. As a consequence, this can cause breakouts, including those right under the eyes.
Factor #4: Possibility of Infection or Irritation
The removal of eyelash extensions requires you to keep your eyes closed, which can be difficult. Accidental product ingestion during removal is a real possibility if you don't have a steady hand.

- Remove your makeup with a gel or cream. Personally, I favor the creme-based varieties.
- Remover should be applied as closely to the lash line as possible without actually touching the skin. In order to protect the eye pads from dirt and grime, try placing a piece of paper towel under the eyelashes.
- Reserve 3–5 minutes for resting time.
- To safely remove extensions, push each one against a folded paper towel while using a lint-free applicator.
- Remove any leftover product from the natural lashes by wiping them down.
