A Step-by-Step Guide to Deleting Pages in Word

Editors and potential employers may get the wrong impression from a document with blank pages. Microsoft Word is notorious for adding unnecessary blank pages to documents; be sure to remove these whenever possible. Fortunately, we can show you the quick and easy way to delete a page in Word.

Our intention is to save others the anguish of staring at a blank page. Since many people use Microsoft Word to create documents, we've compiled this guide to help you get rid of those extra pages if they ever show up there. Our guide also includes information on how to delete a page in Word that contains both text and images, should you ever find yourself in such a bind.

Word's Page With Content Deletion Instructions

Whether it's a page with text and graphics or a blank page, we'll show you how to delete it in Word. First, we'll go over how to delete an entire page of content from Word.

Selecting a page is the first step in deleting it. Use the Go to function (Ctrl G on Windows, Option Command G on Mac OS) or manually navigate to the desired page.

After locating the correct page, a random region on that page must be chosen.

Second, pick up a selection tool and go through the entire page. This may seem unnecessary, but it ensures that Word deletes the entire page and not just the selected text. There are two options for achieving this:

Method one: press Ctrl + G (Option + Command + G on a Mac) to bring up the Go to menu, then enter "page" in the Enter page number field. To exit, click Go to (or hit Enter/Return on your keyboard) and then Close. (Please note that this seems to only work for fully-loaded pages. Use the second selection method below if your page is only partially filled with text or images. )

Two, you can use a cursor drag to select the entire page's content. Be sure to drag past the end of the content when selecting a partially filled page, as if you were also selecting the empty space. The third step might not produce the desired results if you skip this step.

Third, remove the page entirely. There isn't a page deletion option in Microsoft Word, but after selecting the relevant text, erasing the page is a breeze.

Make sure the entire page is selected, and then hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

Word's blank-page deletion instructions

Word, like most text editors, has a strange habit of adding extra blank pages to the end of your document. These should be removed before sending the document to the boss or printer. The following steps will show you how to delete a page in Word, regardless of whether or not it contains any content.

First, open your document's Navigation pane and look for the blank page(s). Make sure the Navigation pane is visible by selecting the View menu and checking the appropriate box.

To view all the pages in your document, select Pages from the sidebar on the left.

Second, in the left pane, click on the blank page you want to delete.

In the third step, you'll delete the text by pressing the Delete button.
