However, your friend is going to have to remember her Apple ID and password that was used to activate the phone if Find My iPhone was turned on, or it will be Activation Locked. And she is the only one that can fix that. You cannot even get Apple to assist you. She could if she has the original purchase receipt.

I have heard that you need to either take it to an Apple Store to have them reset it or download a version of an older iTunes that is compatible with the iPhone 4. Sorry if this doesn’t help and good luck!

If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the recovery mode screen, let the download finish, then turn off your iPhone and start again.
  3. Wait for the process to finish.
  4. Disconnect your iPhone from the computer, then set up and use your iPhone.

If you can't complete any of these steps, if you're still prompted for a passcode, or if you need any other assistance, contact Apple Support.

Many users encounter the issue after update to the latest iOS 13/12. If the device is locked, the first thing to try is the default password. However, if your iPhone is disabled, you left with no room to enter the password and instead, you have to fix the disabled screen.

Fortunately, we have good news for you. There are several methods available out there that can help you to resolve the disabled iPhone issue. Here, we’ll demonstrate how could an iPhone get disabled and show you how to enable a disabled iPhone in numerous ways.

How to Enable A Disabled iPhone

How to Enable A Disabled iPhone

Part 1: How Could An iPhone Be Disabled?

A locked iPhone requires Face ID, Touch ID or passcode to enter and access the device for security reasons. If you try to enter the wrong passcode five times in a row, the device will disable automatically for one minute, giving the error message on the lock screen saying “iPhone is disabled”. In this scenario, the obvious solution is to wait for some minutes and then, try to enter the correct passcode to unlock the device. But, if you again enter the wrong passcode, then the device will automatically disabled for further more minutes.

Let’s give a glance at how many wrong attempts are needed to disable the iPhone for a specific period of time.

  • 5 incorrect passcode attempts – iPhone is disabled, and try again in 1 minute.
  • 7 incorrect passcode attempts – iPhone is disabled, and try again in 5 minutes.
  • 8 incorrect passcode attempts – iPhone is disabled, and try again in 15 minutes.
  • 9 incorrect passcode attempts – iPhone is disabled, and try again in 60 minutes.
  • 10 incorrect passcode attempts – iPhone is disabled, and Connect to iTunes. Else, the iPhone erases all data itself if the erase mode is enabled.

There are certain situations when you didn’t really try to unlock your iPhone. In other words, you didn’t actually enter an incorrect passcode, but you get the message saying iPhone is disabled. How it is possible? Well, there are two common reasons.

The Pocket Disable

The pocket disable is an unexpectedly common situation. This happens to those iPhone users who have a habit of keeping their device in a pocket that they use for their hands too, generally – the front pants pockets, hip jacket pockets, for instance. As the iPhone screen can be swiped from anywhere to unlock the device, it’s pretty common to activate the unlock screen by mistake. After then, you perhaps accidentally enter a wrong passcode a few times while the device is in a pocket with a hand that could make the device disabled.

The Person Disable

Two types of interaction can disable the iPhone – intentional passcode entry by someone who is in an attempt to guess your passcode. The second scenario is unintentional passcode entry that generally activated by a young child.

How to Enable or Disable Device Management on iPhone

Step 1 – On your iPhone, go to Settings and then General. Step 2 – Find Device Management and tap it. You will see your MDM profile here if there is one. Step 3 – You will see Remove Management at the bottom. Tap it and you will be prompted to enter your MDM configuration password. Step 4 – Just enter the password and you’ll be done.

Mobile Device Management allows an organization or a company to remotely configure the devices of their employees or users. It allows different configurations such as software updates, changing settings, downloading, or removing apps, or distributing a piece of information on various devices.

If you are a part of an organization that used MDM, you might want to know how to enable it on your device so you can receive relevant updates. Alternatively, you might be looking to disable this feature on your device.

To make this easier for you, I have explained everything you need to know about enabling or disabling MDM. So, if you’re looking for easy solutions, follow along.

Part 1: How to Enable Device Management on your iPhone

Different companies and organizations use different software to enable MDM on the devices of their members. Usually, the process to enable this sort of service is the same for different variations of the software.

For this article, I am taking Stanford’s MDM service as an example to explain the process. You can follow these steps with your own company’s MDM software. Except for a few understandable variations, everything else should be similar.

Follow the steps below to easily download and enable an MDM service:

Step 1 – Before dealing with MDM, you need to install Intelligent Hub.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - downloaded and install

Step 2 – Open Intelligent Hub after you have downloaded it onto your phone.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Open

Step 3 – Enter your assigned email from your organization. In this case, it will be Stanford’s email address.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Enter Email

Step 4 – Next, you will be asked if the device is owned by you or not. If it is an organization-owned device, select No. Otherwise, select Yes.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Is this your personal device?

Step 5 – You will be shown terms and conditions. Accept them and you will then be shown the data that will be available to MDM. Select Continue.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Set up profile

Step 6 – Now select Download Profile and Allow the popup that appears.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Allow Downloaded

Step 7 – If you’re not automatically directed to Settings, go there yourself.

Step 8 – Go to Profile Downloaded. You will have to install Workspace Services. Install it. You might get a warning message in the process telling you that installing the app will let your organization’s admin remotely manage your device. Just select Install.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - Install Workplace Services

Step 9 – After you install Workplace Services, go to Device Management in Settings. You will see a prompt asking permission to manage the app. Click on Manage. You might be prompted to enter your organization’s credentials.

MDM - Intelligent Hub - App Management

Step 10 – You will see the Privacy page. Click on I understand. Now you’ll be asked if the app can collect data for improvement, click I agree.

Step 11 – You will now see your account with its details. Congrats! You successfully enabled MDM on your device.

You should keep in mind that this method is based on Stanford’s MDM. But you can follow it along roughly to enable your organization’s MDM.

Part 2: How to Disable Device Management on Your iPhone

Enabling MDM on your device gives a lot of control to your organization’s MDM Admin. They can update your software, add apps, remove them, lock your device, or monitor if it follows the organization’s policies.

Some of you might not like your organization to have that much control over your device. So if you are looking to disable MDM on your device, you can follow the methods I have mentioned in this section below.

Method 1: Use Settings to Disable MDM

MDM - Remove Management

Among other things, an MDM admin can also prevent you from removing your profile from an MDM service. But if your iPhone does not have this restriction, you can easily disable MDM from Settings. You can do so by following these steps:

Step 1 – On your iPhone, go to Settings and then General.

Step 2 – Find Device Management and tap it. You will see your MDM profile here if there is one.

Step 3 – You will see Remove Management at the bottom. Tap it and you will be prompted to enter your MDM configuration password.

Step 4 – Just enter the password and you’ll be done. Your MDM is disabled.

This method will work great for those of you who own the target device with the organization’s MDM profile configured in it. But if this isn’t the method for you, just follow the method below.
